11/3/10 [Handwritten by Christopher and then transcribed by Jana] Today we flew to the Galapagos islands. Dad and I noticed something we'd never seen before. A cactus on a tree trunk! It was a prickly-pear cactus. On the way to the hotel we stopped in many places. We stopped in a lava tube that at the end is a place you crawl through. My dad and I were the first ones of the lava tube by 5 minutes! We also stopped at a place to see all the tortoises. These tortoises are 500 lbs. But can get up to 700 lbs. There are two ways to tell if it's a male or female. The length of the tail and the size. The male is larger. If a tortoise is old it has less wrinkles on its shell than if it is young. |
