Madagascar - Day 1

July 13, 2018

A long travel day.  We arrived at Antananarivo, Madagascar and are at our hotel for the night.  We fly out tomorrow morning to begin our adventure.
We got here a bit before dinner.  Took up a couple of the spa options.  Good food at dinner.
Noted that this is our first country of our trip that drives on the right-side of the road.

We got some advice (from a Peace Corp worker in the Customs line ahead of us - I think he is a medical worker) to wear no jewelry (including wedding rings), beware of pickpockets, always have your passport (local police can be 'difficult'), and don't go out after nightfall without armed escort (which is easy to rent for 200 Madagascar dollars (60 cents) - but that Antananarivo is a very safe city.  Got it.  Also, bubonic and pnemonic plague are wet-season phenomena, so don't worry too much - but if symptoms appear, go to a hospital, and they will take care of it right away - and your malaria pills probably also work against plague.  And if you don't speak the local language (Malagasy), don't try to speak French.  Although a lot of folks in Madagascar know the language, many of them hate the French (Madagascar used to be a French colony).

Not much else to mention.  No photos.
